ZATOICHI ARTICLES Here are two Zatoichi articles of interest. Informative and well-written by our customer and friend, The Most Rev. Antonio Hernandez, O.M.D., A.B.F., one article, "History, Misconceptions, and Facts" covers Shintaro Katsu's background as well as the development of the Zatoichi character. It also carves a path to the Zatoichi influence on Peter Falk's "Columbo" character as well as Al Pacino's role "Scent of a Woman." Part of this thought-provoking essay can also be found on the "Justice-is-Blind" website covering the recently released "The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi" film, directed and starring Takeshi Kitano. Both sites are highly recommended reading for every Zatoichi fan. OTHER LINKS OF INTEREST
Here's a listing of unaffiliated sites (we receive no compensation) providing products or services that we use or have used on a regular basis: Refurbished uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) by APC (refurbups.com). We experience power outages on a regular basis, so a UPS is a must. If you need one, too, the savings are considerable on this site, and APC was the brand of choice when I was working as a computer geek. I even have one for our audio/video system. Propel accelerator for dial-up connections (propel.com). A must for dial-up connections. Priced at $60/year (free, 14-day trial) and available only for Windows-based systems, this nifty utility will decrease your download time and increase your on-line pleasure. Propel is also co-branded and provided by ISPs such as Earthlink and NetZero. AVG anti-virus software and updates (grisoft.com). Free. (Windows and Linux.) Mailwasher Pro spam killer (firetrust.com). My spam trasher of choice. I prefer this app because it's NOT integrated into Outlook or Outlook Express. It's easier for me to deal with the almost 500 daily spams BEFORE it reaches my e-mail reader. ZoneLab's ZoneAlarm, software firewall (zonelabs.com). Free. (Windows only.) If you don't have a firewall, get one. There is a learning curve, but nowadays you need to control the data that's entering as well as leaving your computer. Firefox browser (firefox.com). Free. (Windows, Linux, Mac.) I can no longer trust Internet Explorer. Too many security holes and new ones are found on a seemingly weekly basis. Features a built-in pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing, and configurable skins and extensions. Spyware Info (spywareinfo.com). Great website for staying informed about spyware and hijackers. Also provides tools for removing these parasites. Home Theater Forum (hometheaterforum.com) and Audio Video Science Forum (avsforum.com). If you're at all interested in stereo, surround sound, or big screen TVs, you gotta check out these websites. A great resource. Also browse through Home Theater's "Deal page" for money-saving coupons, and their "Software for Sale" for the purchase, selling or trading of used DVDs. Translate, find words or kanji at Jim Breen's WWWJDIC Japanese-English Dictionary Server. Quickspice.com for Asian food, cookware, and recipes.
